About

I have been running for just over two years. While I’m blessed with a certain amount of general athleticism, I’m by no means a natural endurance athlete. My first run in March 2011 was 3 miles at about a 9:00/mile pace, and I thought I was going to die. However, I knew I wanted to get in shape, and it was becoming clearer by the pound that my metabolism wasn’t quite what it used to be. So, I kept at it, just thinking I would run 3-4 times a week, with 2 or 3 miles being the norm and a “long” run on weekends (which started at about 5 miles). Every weekend I kept adding a mile or so, and started to think I might try a half marathon (full marathons were only for crazy people). Then one day I ran 13 miles and thought, “I don’t really want to pay $100 to go do what I just did…maybe I should try a marathon”. Nine months after that first grueling 3-miler I ran my first marathon.

Two years and 3 marathons, 3 half marathons, a bunch of 5ks, and one Olympic triathlon later I’m starting this site to record my training and provide a resource for a few friends who have shown interest in a more thoughtful and/or more disciplined approach to their own training. Hopefully it will become more than just a record of my own training, but for now that’s all it is. Enjoy, and feel free to send me any questions or suggestions for topics to cover.
